US Congress – Bills Proposed

House of Representatives

H.R. 3223-Retroactive Pay Fairness Act- all government workers who are going without pay because of the shutdown are paid retroactively once the shutdown ends.

H.R. 377- to prohibit the US voluntary contributions to the regular budget of the United Nations or any UN agency.

H.R. 3111- to ensure Americans and their families shot at Ft. Hood receive the same honors and benefits as those killed or wounded in combat. 

H.R. 3073- Healthy Food Choices Act- requires people using food stamps to buy only healthy food. (about $2 billion worth of junk food is purchased through food stamps.

H.R. 3176 - Water Rights Protection Act- protects privately held water rights - prohibits federal water grabs and upholds states water rights.

Senate

S. 1565- a bill to require the Secretary of Labor to maintain a public available list of all employers that relocate a call center overseas, making these companies ineligible for federal grant funds or loans and requires disclosure of the physical location.

S. 1569- a bill to ensure the complete and timely  payment of the obligations of the US government until Dec 31, 2014.

S. 1510- a bill to provide for audible financial statements for the Dept. of Defense.

S. 1489/H.R. 3674- a bill to amend the IRS code of 1986 to require the IRS notify taxpayers each time  taxpayer information is accessed by the IRS.

On H.R. 3176, the Water Rights Protection Act:   Yesterday, the House Natural Resources Committee's Subcommittee on Water and Power held a hearing on HR [3189], the Water Rights Protection Act.  The legislation is authored by Colorado Congressman Scott Tiption and would ‘protect privately held water rights, prohibit federal water grabs and uphold state water laws.' … In recent years, the federal government has attempted to end-run state water law and hijack privately held water rights. The U.S. Forest Service is currently attempting to implement a requirement for the transfer of privately held water rights to the federal government as a permit condition on National Forest Service lands. This defacto extortion of water rights is already having an adverse impact on a number of water users including the recreation industry, farming and ranching operations, businesses and municipalities.  During today’s hearing, Committee Members heard from witnesses who testified on the importance of the established state water laws, the need to protect them and decried the new attempts by the Forest Service to usurp those rights and resources. … “ Read more from the House Natural Resource Committee.
