Support HB 195 Georgia

HB 195 amends HR 277 to allow cities and counties to enter into inter-agency agreements to address transportation projects that cross city and county boundaries.  HR 277, The Transportation Investment Act of 2010 (TIA) authorized Regional Commissions to propose the failed T-SPLOST of 2012.  HB 195 recognizes that a more flexible, locally controlled solution was needed.

HB 195 is being reviewed in the current legislative session, 2013-2014 Regular Session - HB 195  is described Special district transportation sales and use tax; creation of special districts; provide method.  Sponsor: Ed Setzler 35th referred to the Transportation Committee
Committee Members: Roberts, Jay ChairmanClark, Valerie Vice Chairman,  Epps, Bubber Secretary   Members: Ballinger, Mandi L. , Benton, Tommy   Bryant, Bob, Burns, Jon G., Channell, Mickey  Deffenbaugh, John, Dollar, Matt , Gardner, Pat  Geisinger, Harry, Hamilton, Mark, Harrell, Brett  Holt, Doug, Jacobs, Mike, Jones, Sheila, Jordan, Darryl

HB 195 puts the authority and responsibility for proposing cooperative projects directly in the hands of local elected officials for projects that are within their jurisdiction.  One of the problems with the current law is that elected officials are expected to approve projects in other cities and counties, where they are unfamiliar with local needs.
