Sloppy Voting

Most voters don’t do their homework.  They don’t check the voting records and contributor lists of the candidates on their ballot.  If they did, they would never vote for an incumbent.  Voting records and contributor lists are posted on websites.  Instead, voters will vote for candidates because they know them, or a friend begs them to vote for some candidate or put a sign in their yard.  The truth is, most politicians don’t work for the voters.  They work for their “special interest” campaign contributors.  They carry specific Bills written by these “special interests” to the floor to be passed into law. Often, these laws leave voters “holding the bag”.
Some voters are too easily influenced by others.  Some voters use lame criteria to make their decisions.  Negative ads, lies and dirty tricks are employed to throw voters off. Most voters don’t take the hours required to inform themselves.
Many candidates do not publish their positions or issues on their websites.  They do not answer questions directly.  They are coached to elicit positive emotional reactions.  Their answers are often “lame”.  Their pat answer to their highest priority is Police Protection, when the roads are rotting.  Politically that’s the right answer, but it’s lame.  I am not impressed with that answer.  Don’t they know that Police usually arrive too late to save lives ?  Don’t they know that the primary job of Police is to catch the criminal who committed the crime ?  But, voters, I am told, act like Police actually save lives.  I’m afraid that’s not usually true.  Police work is like Physicians work.  Physicians can try to save lives, but their chances of success depends on the condition of the patient.  Yet, we spend trillions on insurance and expensive treatments especially when the prognosis is bad. Education is another emotional issue.  We spend trillions on education, but it seems to get worse every year. Voters need to wise up.  The emotional issues are bankrupting us.
