*Georgia’s American Laws for Georgia Courts, H.B. 171,* is
assigned to the Georgia House Judiciary Civil Subcommittee.
It must be passed through this Subcommittee, then the full
Committee, then the Rules Committee and then the full House membership *in the
next 16 working session days* to get to the Senate, so there’s a lot of work to
do.
Contact your State House Representative and the Committee
Chair Mike Jacobs, 404-656-5116, repjacobs@gmail.com. First email them the sample
letter below (modify it for your style) then call them.
Nationally, there have been over a 100 documented cases
where foreign law was successfully used in civil courts.
H.B. 171 is common-sense legislation that protects
Georgians’ individual, fundamental constitutional rights from foreign laws or
legal doctrines in a Civil Law suit (family matters) *where the application of
those laws/doctrines would violate their constitutional rights*. No particular
foreign law is singled out. The Bill applies to them all.
H.B. 171 makes it more difficult for a judge to allow any
introduction of a foreign law into a civil case in Georgia. It’s that simple.
*Time is of the essence as there are not too many working
session days left for this to occur and we need to be sure that the members of
the Committee understand the strong level of support across Georgia for this
bill!*
*It just takes a moment of your time, but when your actions
are joined together with the actions of thousands of other voters in Georgia,
it makes quite a roar.*
Please *respectfully* relay sentiments in your own words in
a phone call and e-mail. A sample note and contact information is shown below
for your consideration.
