ATLANTA HOMELESS CENSUS

2015 POINT-IN-TIME HOMELESS COUNT

City of Atlanta to Conduct Metro Atlanta Homeless Count
The City of Atlanta will conduct its Homeless Point-in-Time (PiT) Homeless Count on January 22, 2015.

We need over 400 more volunteers to make the PiT Homeless Count a success and to help eliminate homelessness in Atlanta. The PiT Count gives the City and its partner Agencies valuable demographic information on the homeless population that makes it possible to strategically target resources for optimal results.

The Metro Atlanta homeless census focuses on surveying individuals living in shelters and transitional housing as well as unsheltered homeless who are sleeping in outdoor locations such as sidewalks, parks, encampments and under bridges.

The survey provides demographic characteristics and important Veterans information. The homeless count is crucial for tracking the success of local efforts to end homelessness in Metro Atlanta and essential for planning future efforts.

In addition to Veterans, this count focuses single women with children, LGBT youth, and other youth who are homeless. These groups make up a significant portion of chronic homelessness, and those who are the most vulnerable to homelessness. Your efforts will help to identify these vulnerable groups by conducting surveys that provide demographic characteristics, homeless history, homeless experiences, and other vital information. The homeless count is crucial for meeting federal requirements to continue receiving over $10 million for homeless services, and for tracking the success of local efforts to end homelessness in Metro Atlanta.

The Metro Atlanta homeless census targets the unsheltered homeless who are sleeping in outdoor locations such as sidewalks, parks, encampments and under bridges. Also included in the PiT Count are the sheltered homeless, who are staying in emergency shelters and transitional housing programs.
