As Danger
Levels Rise, New Demographic Seeks to Buy Guns for First Time
Since early 2015, background checks
through NICS have seen continued and sustained growth, as more citizens follow
up on becoming responsible, legally armed Americans. After the terrorist
attacks in Paris, that growth has once again seen exponential growth. More
people are seeking carry licenses, training, and purchasing firearms.
Some states, such as Pennsylvania and
Ohio, have seen as much as a 60% increase in carry permit applications.
Firearms sales have drastically
increased in other areas. More first time buyers are currently seeking firearms
for their homes, and obtaining training in their use. People that have never
felt the need to own a gun are now seeking this additional level of protection.
Jerry McCall, owner of Texas Guns, told a local TV
station after the Paris attacks the store’s patrons took on a different flavor.
“I am 67 and I have people in their 70s and 80s who say they have never owned a
firearm, but think they need one in the house now,” he said. Steve Rhodes, from
TGD Firearms, told reporters, “We have a lot of first-time buyers who come in
and say, ‘You know what, it’s getting kind of crazy out there. We just want to
feel protected.’”
As more Americans anticipate an attack
by terrorists on US soil, they are planning and preparing for the worst. Those
in the industry expect to see a continued rise in firearms sales. Speaking from
personal experience as a firearms instructor and assistant manager at an indoor
gun range and pro shop, we are seeing a daily increase in first time buyers and
new shooters. Our instructors are booked out for one on one training
appointments two to three weeks in advance, and our fundamentals courses, which
we host twice a month, are standing room only.
Apparently, no matter what the current
administration tries to convince We The People of, we aren’t quite buying into
the party line. Instead, we are trusting in proper planning and preparation. Stand strong, America.
