Being on the Team in Politics

The problem with the House and Senate is that their leaders are more concerned about supporting the work of the House and the Senate than doing the “will of the people”. Their loyalties next go to the folks who work in the federal government.  This is their team.  Only a few lonely Constitutionalists even consider that their loyalties belong to the US Constitution and the People.

When Republicans won the House in 2010, John Boehner was more concerned about controlling the GOP reps than stopping Obama’s unconstitutional, ruinous spending.  When the Republicans won the Senate in 2014, Mitch McConnell was more concerned to reestablish the budget process than stopping Obama’s spending. When Paul Ryan took over the House in 2015, his main priority was to restore the budget process in the House.  These leaders are more loyal to their House and Senate than they are to the Constitution or the people.

The same dynamic exists in State and local government.  Its government vs. the people, while all the time claiming to be working for the people. 90% of the 300 Bills moved forward by the GA Legislature are for municipalities and federal enabling. 

Local governments routinely ignore their rotting critical infrastructure in favor of some ‘news grabbing’ “economic development” boondoggle. In Metro Atlanta, storm sewers have rotted, sink holes are prevalent, water treatment breeches have not been fixed, new reservoirs have not been built, water supply lines are worn out, roads are pot-holed, road-beds are rotten, bridges need maintanance and highways are inadequate and have needed to be expanded for some time.

DeKalb and Fulton act like government is just a ‘jobs program’. The Public School Systems acts like they exist to build multi-million dollar schools to keep contractors in business.  Cities and counties are insular and would rather hire PR help than attack the real infrastructure problems.
