Battle over Georgia GOP delegates leads to finger-pointing and threats,
4/18/16, WSB
Dozens of Georgia
delegates who openly back Republican presidential candidate Ted Cruz claimed
seats at the Republican National Convention, despite Donald Trump's win in the
Georgia primary. Now there is plenty of finger-pointing, threats and calls to
change the system.
Channel 2 political
reporter Lori Geary spent the day talking with Cruz and Trump supporters after
a series of weekend conventions.
Trump gets 42 bound
Georgia delegates at the national convention because of his Super Tuesday win.
Cruz will get 18.
Those delegates
assigned to Trump are bound to vote for him only during the first round of
voting for the presidential nomination in Cleveland, Ohio this summer.
However, many of the
delegates elected across the state this weekend are open about their support of
Cruz.
Those delegates are
free to choose their own candidate in a second vote and could quickly change
their vote if Trump is unable to secure a majority of delegates in the first
round.
"This whole
entire system is absolutely stacked against an outsider," Trump supporter
and Tea Party leader Debbie Dooley.
"We accomplished
what we did Saturday, winning 32 out of 42 delegates by preparation. It's not
the will to win, it's the will to prepare to win," countered Cruz
grassroots co-chair Scott Johnson.
Several Trump
supporters walked out of a meeting in Georgia's 7th Congressional District,
taking the American flag with them.
"(You) might as
well put a sign up that says, "Warning: Your vote may not matter,"
Dooley said. "The Georgia Republican Party needs to change this antiquated
system. They're playing by the rules but they're not respecting the will of the
voters."
Johnson told Geary on
the second round of voting he intends to make the choice that is best for
Georgia and the country, but he intends to pick Cruz if it 's down to Cruz and
Trump.

Although
the GA GOP “Reformers” racked up 45% of the vote for Alex Johnson (Dunwoody),
their GOP State Chairman candidate in the 2015 election, the GOP
“Establishment” won the vote using “bait and switch” rules changes from the
floor and “delay” tactics. The 2015 Convention was a sham, just like the 2013
Convention.
The Cruz
campaign used the riff in the GA GOP to gain the delegate advantage at the
District Conventions. This “divide and
conquer” tactic worked, but it also prompted Breitbart, the Trump campaign and
others to shine a light on this riff.
The “Old
Guard” GA “Establishment” grew out of the Reagan election in 1980. Many Georgians voted for Reagan, despite the
fact that they had been a Democrat stronghold.
Many Democrat Politicians began to switch Parties in order to get
elected. Today, they occupy the State’s
top offices and 80% of the GA Legislature.
Their Conservative Review Scores are abysmal and Georgia is ranked #1 in
Corruption.
The GA
GOP “Establishment” is extremely proud of their work on and after the Reagan
win in 1980. They take full credit for
converting Georgia from a Blue State to a Red State. When our large corporations switched to Obama
in 2008, the GA GOP made sure that GA supported all of Obama’s
“transformation”, in exchange for federal bribes that ranged from $20 to $30
billion a year in federal grants to states.
The GA GOP barely supported the weak McCain and Romney campaigns.
According
to this WSB report, Cruz won 32 of 42 delegates; that puts into question whether
Trump has 10 or 12 delegates who might stay with him on a 2nd vote.
