Politics

Politics is for those who show up.  Lots of people don’t.  Those who do show up can be divided into categories.  It takes time and study to figure out how politics works and most people don’t have time to do this unless their work exposes them to how government works. Government was designed to be limited, but is now involved in everything.  For those of us who try to keep up with it, it’s like living through the “blitzkrieg”.

Political Party activists include a few are aspiring candidates, some are “Robert’s Rules of Order” wonks, some are campaign workers, some are fund raisers, cheerleaders, worker bees, etc.  Those who believe in government are usually Democrats and those who believe in limiting government are usually Republicans.  Those Republicans who believe in government we call RINOs of Statists, (Republican In Name Only).

The Party crowd has been tightly controlled by the “establishment” elected officials and their minions.  They believe the Party exists to support the establishment candidates and little else.  It is more of a social organization for the worker bees who give their loyalty and look for loyalty in return, but often don’t find it.  Parties should be more involved in debate, positions on issues and resolutions from Party meetings, but it isn’t.  Parties could sponsor opinion polls on their websites to find out what the voters think, but they don’t.

Government Watchdogs are the sceptics and react to news reports and announcements of decisions that smell fishy and ask questions.  When they don’t get answers that pass the smell test, they start digging out all the facts they can get from open records requests and other sources. When I see dumb decisions coming from City Councils and County Commissions and School Boards, I can trace these back to the State Legislature for enabling legislation and in most cases to the Federal Government for UN Agenda 21 implementation. 

I prefer to view government as a utility.  We pool our tax money to provide roads, bridges, storm sewers, reservoirs, sanitary sewers and water treatment plants to handle the basics used by 100% of the tax payers.  The federal government should provide for national defense and the few “enumerated powers” granted in the US Constitution (as written).  The free market and private sector should take care of the rest. Families should take care of their own family members.
