President Obama is once again
circumventing Congress through his unconstitutional plan to give away control
of the Internet to rogue international operatives. We are calling for congressional intervention before its too
late.
The Constitution, Article Four,
Section Three, states that only “Congress shall have the power to dispose of …
property belonging to the United States.”
The question then becomes, “Is the
Internet United States property?” As you no doubt remember, Al Gore once
famously declared that he invented the Internet! The answer is actually quite
simple…
In 1958, President Dwight D.
Eisenhower created the Advanced Research Projects Agency (ARPA). ARPA was
commissioned to create a pathway for computers to talk to each other, which
then were the size of rooms and used different language protocols. Over the
next two decades, computer and technological advancements, and improved
satellite communications ushered in what we now call the Internet. It was
initially used for government and military communications.
The latest U.S. government contract
with the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN) states,
“all deliverables under this contract become the property of the U.S. government.”
Therefore,
because the Internet is truly the property of the United States, by order of
the Constitution, President Barack Obama MUST seek congressional approval for
the transfer of government property!
But Barack Obama, our
Tyrant-in-Chief, has no intention of getting congressional approval. Instead,
as he has done numerous times over the past 7 1/2 years, he is unilaterally
circumventing Congress in order to get his lame-duck agenda accomplished.
We strongly contest turning over
Internet governance to world communities and leaders who may intend to do us
harm. The new “regulators” may be enemies of our way of life, enemies of the
United States in general, and/or nations that oppose freedom of speech and
freedom of the press for their own geo-political reasons.
We are urging congressional action
to ensure that our remaining oversight of the Internet is NOT ceded to the
international community. To start, we are calling for the passage of the Protecting Internet Freedom Act in
both chambers of Congress.
Tragically, this surrender of
authority over the Internet is yet another of President Barack H. Obama’s
misguided actions that will further undermine the United States’ power and
influence in the world.
We are urging grassroots action to
ensure that our oversight of the Internet is NOT ceded to the international
community.
God bless you for standing with us,
Mathew Staver, Chairman Liberty Counsel Action

In 1983,
I was enrolled in a Fellowship Program in Strategic Studies with Western
Behavioral Science Institute, La Jolla CA. It was internet based with PC access
through New Jersey Institute of Technology (NJIT). It was a 2 year program. We received a box of reading material each
month and interacted on line. There were
30 students per class. Our students were technology company executives, academics
and high level government officials including CIA and military. We met in La Jolla each year for a week. I
was one of the few “conservative” students to complete the program. I graduated in 1985. I knew the US government owned the internet.
