Military Poll

Donald Trump Now Leading By Huge Margin Among Military Members, "Everyone is so worried about… by V Saxena 10/19/16

A newly published poll shows GOP presidential nominee Donald Trump beating the other candidates among all members of the military, including both enlisted soldiers and veterans.

Specifically, the Military Times poll shows Trump leading with 40.5 percent of military voters. Behind him are Libertarian Gary Johnson with 27 percent, Democrat Hillary Clinton with 20.6 percent and Green Party candidate Jill Stein with 1.7 percent.

Among just officers, however, Trump’s support drops to 26.2 percent, whereas Johnson’s rating rises to 31.3 percent and Clinton’s rating jumps to 31.7 percent.

With enlisted personnel, the trend reverses, with Trump commanding 43.4 of the vote and Johnson and Clinton acquiring only 26.2 and 18.4 percent of it, respectively.
A poll published last month by the Marine Times had shown Trump and Johnson effectively tied among all military members, with Trump maintaining 37.6 percent of the vote and Johnson commanding 36.5 percent of it.

The upward movement for Trump suggests that the recent allegations of sexual assault and misogyny that have been lodged against him have not negatively affected his campaign with members of the military.

Speaking with the Times, one male Marine corporal explained why he still supports the GOP nominee. “Everyone is so worried about what Donald Trump has said over a decade ago or about his tax returns over 20 years ago,” the unidentified corporal stated. “No one seems to care that Hillary Clinton is directly responsible for leaking classified information.” “It’s an embarrassment that she is on the verge of becoming president,” he added.

But not everyone agreed with the corporal’s assessment. “Trump perpetuates ‘the boys will be boys’ mentality that does not reflect current military culture,” said one female Army master sergeant. “It’s both dangerous and disrespectful.” Another soldier, this one a male Navy lieutenant, complained that both candidates were bad, stating, “It is a sad thing to witness that this is the best leadership options that the nation can bring to the table.”
