Trump Leads

Independent Voters Push Trump To The Front In Florida And Ohio, "Right now, they tilt for " by jack Davis, 10/26/16

New polls in the vital battleground states of Florida and Ohio show Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump taking a slight lead with support from independent voters. A Bloomberg Politics poll in Florida shows Trump leading Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton in both head-to-head match-ups and with minor party candidates included.

With all candidates included, Trump leads Clinton 45 percent to 43 percent. Trump also wins one-on-one, leading Clinton 46 percent to 45 percent.

Among independent voters, Trump leads Clinton 43 percent to 41 percent when voters only had the option of the major party candidates. When Libertarian candidate Gary Johnson and Green Party candidate Jill Stein were factored into the race, Trump rose to 44 percent while Clinton fell to 37 percent.

Trump has been aggressively campaigning in Florida in hopes of winning the state.

In Ohio, a poll by Remington Research found that with all candidates factored in, Trump came out ahead of Clinton 46 percent to 42 percent.

Among non-aligned voters, Trump led Clinton 41 percent to 37 percent in the Ohio poll.

Remington Research polls also show Trump leading in North Carolina with a 47 percent to 42 margin over Clinton, and Nevada, 47 percent to 44 percent.

“This race may come down to the independent vote,” said Bloomberg pollster J. Ann Selzer, who oversaw the Florida survey. “Right now, they tilt for Trump. By a narrow margin, they opted for Obama over Romney in 2012.”

“This poll suggests Trump has more opportunity in Florida than some think is realistic given his poor standing with Hispanics,” Selzer said, noting that Clinton garnered 51 percent of the Hispanic vote in the new poll.

“But he does well with groups that are key to winning there, including older, more reliable voters. Clinton depends on younger voters and a strong presence at the polls of black and non-Cuban Hispanics,” he said.

The Florida poll also surveyed voters about the contest between Sen. Marco Rubio and Democrat Patrick Murphy for Rubio’s Senate seat.

The Bloomberg poll has Rubio leading Murphy 51 percent to 41 percent.
