Manufacturing Jobs

Liberals are saying that the science fiction being touted today will replace manufacturing jobs, so why bother bringing them back to the US. This is another big lie. They are also saying that vehicles will drive themselves. If that were true we wouldn’t have so many public transit train accidents. If research labs can produce robots, self-driving vehicles and manufacturing without employees then where are they and what do they cost?

My consulting customers included companies that off-shored their manufacturing like Scientific Atlanta. They sent their TV set-top manufacturing to Juarez Mexico. Trump’s corporate tax cut could bring them back to the US.

Continuous Improvement

The techniques US companies used when they off-shored their manufacturing may or may not have continued to evolve. Knowing that we solved our quality problems using Continuous Improvement, Lean Process Control and Teams to improve design and operation processes, I knew that the processes worked because I saw the difference in the quality of the products. The same techniques we used in Reliability Engineering to control product life were used to extend product life. We see this with our automobiles lasting longer.

High Speed, Highly Automated 24/7 manufacturing processes allowed us to build a Huggies Diaper plant that supplied half the US while staffing it with 750 Technicians. That took the labor cost out of the product and emphasized equipment maintenance. These companies really didn’t need to leave the US. They could set up close to their consumer populations and raw material suppliers.
