I read in
the AJC on 1/16/17 that electric car sales are down because the $5000 State tax
credit was cancelled. When the electric cars came out, I was not interested.
They were not practical for us because we take car trips and the electric cars
don’t have the range. We prefer the hybrid that does have the range and low
mileage. We did trade in the Cadillacs
in 2005 to get a pair of Toyota Prius cars and got a $2000 Federal tax credit
on each. Gasoline prices were approaching $4 per gallon and we wanted to cut
our gas usage by 66%.
We were
also keen on keeping our electric bills in check and didn’t want to add to the
increase from $211 per month in 2006 to its current $318 per month. We knew that the government was doing
everything it could to raise our electric rates, from loading nonsense into the
nuclear plant expansion to mal-investments in wind and solar to keep the UN
happy.
In the
meantime, gasoline has settled down in the $2 per gallon range. There must be a
market for the electric car, but it must be limited to folks who live alone, drive
5 miles to work every day, aren’t married, have no kids, don’t have any friends
or relatives and don’t go anywhere else. This sounds like Obama’s new vision
for what families should become.

What d'you want to bet I could find ways to get your electric bill down below $100/month? Even if you use a heat pump?
