Religion in the US

The US was established with Judeo-Christian principles and law.  Because of the differences in denominations among Protestants, “freedom of religion” was ensured. Because Christianity was open to expansion, non-Christians were included as they may be future converts.

The adjustments required of “Christians” in our history include the end of polygamy that had been allowed for Mormons and they changed their rules to include banning polygamy.  When States passed laws requiring the attainment of a certain age in order to be legally married, Mormons and others agreed to comply. 

The Amish were allowed to continue their lifestyle rules of simplicity and were allowed to dress modestly and resist using modern devices.  Hasidic Jews are welcome to identify themselves with their dress, hats and hairstyle. 

The practice of peaceful non-Christian religions has been allowed in the US including eastern religions, who also comply with US law.

Marriages between partners with different faith backgrounds should be determined by the couple, but they will need to know that their decision to marry may affect their relationship with their families and their marriage is statistically at risk.

Now we are dealing with Muslims at a time when we are at war with violent Muslim sects and we must insist that Muslims obey US law. They should be able to dress as they wish, but they should be free to refrain from this because of current hostilities and the need to assimilate. 

The US should ban Sharia law from US courts and reemphasize our requirements that Muslims will not be allowed to violate US law, Honor killing, killing non-Muslims, polygamy, pedophilia and other violations of US law will be punished.  Sharia should not be imposed on non-Muslims. Also Muslims should not qualify for anti-discrimination protection until they formally adopt a less violent version of Islam.
