Immigration Reform

We need to reset our Immigration laws to what we had in the 1950s. Immigrants could apply for entry and would be required to have the resources to be self-supporting. They would need an employer-sponsored visa like H1b for engineers or H2a for seasonal agricultural workers. Employers would have to prove that they couldn’t find US citizens to perform these jobs. I’ve done this and it isn’t hard.

 

The overall strategy of US immigration should be to bring in the best and the brightest we used to refer to as the “brain drain”.

 

The criteria for allowing immigrants into the US should be based on US critical labor needs. They should be allowed to come because we need them, not because they want to come to the US.  The exception would be that the immediate family of the immigrant we’ve just got to have would be able to come as well. That would limit this to spouse and children.

 

Refugees should not be allowed to come to the US. All foreigners should be processed as immigrants and considered for immigrant status based on their ability to support themselves.  Refugees should be held in safe areas of their home countries or in neighboring countries with the same culture.

 

If we really want illegal aliens and refugees to return to their home countries, we would reduce their welfare incentives. Government spends $337 billion a year in taxpayer funded welfare and services to keep these illegals and refugees here in the US.
