Just Put it on Our Credit Card

The federal government spends $4 trillion a year, but they only collect about $3 trillion a year. This has been going on for decades and our national debt is $20 trillion; that’s our credit card balance.

This all started when the federal government started to violate the US Constitution and add to its “enumerated powers” without bothering to write Amendments to allow it and have the States ratify it.

The federal government spends about $1 trillion a year fulfilling its “enumerated powers” and the other $3 trillion on its many unconstitutional adventures. There is talk about reducing the size of the federal government, but no action yet.  Some say it will never happen until we become Venezuela and go broke. The problem is that buying out the Social Security Ponzi scheme will cost another $1 trillion a year for the next 50 years.

The federal government is spending about $1 trillion a year on non-essential activities like admitting welfare immigrants that cost us $384 billion a year and spend $1.5 trillion a year to give to the Health Provider Cartel for Medicare, Medicaid and subsidies to ensure that medical treatment costs keep escalating. Our trade deficit is about $800 billion, so we can contribute to the economies of other countries. Foreign aid is $43 billion. Interest on the debt is $433 billion.

Our State and local governments spend another $3 trillion a year and are also in debt.  Government employee pension plans have not fared well in our low interest earning environment, so together with our declining economy, revenues have not kept up with the largesse. Government pensions cost $1.5 trillion a year. Government pensions are available after 30 years of service, so we are all continuing to work to pay for the early retirement of these heros.

The cost of government infrastructure, like roads and sewer systems doubled in 2010 and I heard not a whimper from our elected officials about crony overcharges. 

In the meantime, we spent an extra $1 trillion a year to combat global warming and that turned out to be a hoax. Education is about $1 trillion a year and it is also turning out to be a hoax.

It’s way past time to start paying down our $20 trillion credit card.
