US Jobs Report


The October Jobs Report confirms signs that the US job creation is growing.  The US added 261k non-farm jobs in October. The Unemployment Rate decreased from 4.2% to 4.1%, but the Labor Participation Rate also dropped from 63.1% to 62.7%.

 

Hiring for October includes:

Service Providers 219k

Hospitality 106k

Manufacturing 24k

Construction 11k

Retail -8.3k

From 2008 to 2016, the US added an average of 150k jobs each month, but most were minimum wage and went to the 150k immigrants we brought in each month.  That left nothing for the 150k new grad we produced each year. Now, illegal immigration is down by 70% and legal immigration like refugees, lottery and chain migrants are finally in Trump’s gun-sights.

We need to watch the Labor Participation Rate to track employment growth by working-age US citizens going forward.
