The Gun Industry Says It Has

The
gun industry published a report saying it’s not only
doing just fine, but has actually grown by 158% since 2008. The National
Shooting Sports Foundation (NSSF), the trade association for firearms
manufacturers, reported that the total economic impact of the firearms and
ammunition industry in the U.S. increased from $19.1 billion in 2008 to $49.3
billion in 2015. The NSSF also reported that, in that same time period, the
total number of full-time jobs related to gun making in the U.S. rose from
about 166,000 to almost 288,000.
I’ve noted before that this
growth in gun sales began long before President Barack Obama first won the
White House in 2008, but his politics have certainly prompted a lot of
Americans to buy guns.
Now Hillary Clinton sees
this industry as politically incorrect enough to attack in her stump speeches. Hillary
said that America’s gun manufacturers “are the only business in America that is
wholly protected from any kind of liability. They can sell a gun to someone
they know they shouldn’t, and they won’t be sued. There will be no consequences.”
Hillary repeated this claim on CBS News’ “Face the
Nation” by saying gun manufacturers are “the only industry in our country where
we have given that kind of carte blanche to do whatever you want to do with no
fear of legal consequences.”
Hillary is referring to
the Protection of Lawful
Commerce in Arms Act (PLCAA), legislation signed into law in 2005 that was
designed to halt class-action lawsuits that began during and were backed by
President Bill Clinton’s administration. These lawsuits attempted to hold gun
makers and dealers civilly liable for the actions of criminals. The lawsuits
filed against gun makers and sellers are akin to someone suing Americas’ Bat
Co. because someone used one of its bats in a crime.
The language of the PLCAA is
actually so blunt that anyone who takes the time to skim it quickly sees it
explicitly does not protect
gun manufacturers who break the law or make a bad product. Even Politifact looked into this and found Hillary’s
claim to be “false.” Still, Hillary keeps making this claim.
The NSSF’s report doesn’t
get into gun politics, but in this political season it is an injection of
reality into a false narrative Hillary keeps repeating.
Imagine, if you can, if
Hillary Clinton visited one of America’s gun manufactures. Right now she’s
campaigning hard to stop Bernie Sanders from taking New York. It just so
happens that America’s oldest company that still makes its original product,
Remington Arms, is located in New York State and this year Remington is having
its 200th birthday.

The threat of Obama and Hillary handing us over to
the UN has passed for now. But during the years between 2008 and 2016, US
citizens invested $30 billion for weapons to protect themselves from their own
federal government.
The Democrat Agenda 21 playbook has not changed. If
we can’t get the Democrats to reform themselves back into being Americans, we
will continue to face the globalist threat and all the chaos that would proceed
it.
The 2nd Amendment protects US citizens
from seizure of their guns by government. This happens in totalitarian
countries where the dictator wants the population to be virtually helpless. It
always results in citizens being brutalized by government employees.
A well-armed citizenry is a deterrent to invasion,
insurrection and crime. Secure facilities with a well-armed, organized team of
defenders is the only way to effectively deter shooters and bombers.
