Texas – State GDP $1.7018 trillion, population 28.7 million, state government spending $269.2 billion, state government debt $296 billion. Land area 261.8 thousand square miles.

New York – State GDP $1.6035 trillion, population 19.9 million, government spending $353.2 billion, government debt $357.2 billion. Land area 47.2 thousand square miles.

Florida – State GDP $1.0172 trillion, population 21.3 million, government spending $184 billion, government debt $142.6 billion. Land area 53.9 thousand square miles.

I listed data from the top 11 States. Georgia ranks 9^th in the US in GDP. What we produce includes agriculture like most other states and industry. The difference between the $89.6 billion we spend and the $26 billion we hear about are funds from federal programs and grants.  I expect these federal funds to decline as programs are trimmed. Georgia needs to reduce debt and run a surplus and secure manufacturing jobs especially for rural counties.

Our States are about the same size as most other countries and many have similar size populations, GDP, spending and debt.  As Texas increases its oil and gas production, I expect it to keep growing along with the other Midwestern oil and gas States and Alaska.
