MARTA

MARTA expansion fans will just not give up on their goal to expand bus service and run the MARTA rails up 400 to Alpharetta - AJC 3/26/18 (Deal may allow transit expansion).

The last rail expansion estimate was $2.5 billion and the buses are still empty on the north end of DeKalb and Fulton.

The last time MARTA went for more tax subsidies was 2012, when we voted down the TSPLOST with 66% voting No.

MARTA needs to privatize the buses to end tax subsidies and only add rail after the trains are self-funded by ticket revenue.

MARTA was built to connect the shopping malls and now these malls are losing businesses because of online shopping.

The cost per passenger boarding on buses in 2017 was varied roughly from $4 to $6, with the peak in June

The cost per passenger boarding on rail in 2017 remained between $3 in June and $4 in December.

MARTA claims to serve 1.7 million passengers including 500,000 commuters each weekday.

MARTA is a jobs program with about 25,000 employees.

MARTA has an operating budget of $461.6 million and a capital budget of $434.9 million. The MARTA fare is $2.50.

MARTA estimates over 440,000 riders will use their transit services per day in 2017 and projects a passenger revenue of $143.4 million.
