Mental Illness

Treatment for “mental illness” is often ineffective. Before counseling is attempted, patients need to address their medical conditions and take medication and adjust their diet to restore their chemical processes to a normal range. This can be done with a blood test and can alert us to vitamin, mineral, neurotransmitter, adrenal support, basic element, enzyme and other deficiencies.

Almost 99% of the mass of the human body is made up of six elements: oxygencarbonhydrogen, nitrogencalcium, and phosphorus. Only about 0.85% is composed of another five elements: potassium, sulfursodiumchlorine, and magnesium.

The endocrine system article below explains maintaining the balance of calcium and phosphate required and the role of vitamin D and what body parts manage this balance.

Most of the chemicals we need are provided by the food we eat like, eggs, diary, meat, potatoes and vegetables. Multivitamins list the percentage of daily requirements of vitamins and minerals and may need to be supplemented.

I started taking a 400 mg Magnesium supplement 2 years ago, became less hungry and over time lost over 30 pounds.  My overconsumption of food was caused by my Magnesium deficiency. I also had a potassium deficiency and have added bananas to my diet.

I didn’t have any symptom listed for magnesium deficiency like depression, anxiety, insomnia or irritability, but I can imagine the number of patients in counseling for what might be a mineral deficiency. That’s why I want patients to check their body chemistry first.

Addicts will not get better until they decide to get better, but they are admitted to treatment not having made that decision. The result is relapse after relapse.

I recommend work as an activity for those who have tendencies toward addiction. Nobody should feel useless or helpless, but all of us need to be smarter and take responsibility for ourselves.

It costs nothing to look up information about our body chemistry or read our multivitamin bottles.  It costs very little to have a blood test and check our body chemistry or take an occupational interest test.  The cost is very high if you self-medicate with drugs or alcohol. There is no reason for anybody to become a slug, feel useless or commit suicide. We are ultimately responsible for ourselves and our free will makes it impossible for this privilege to pass to others. The human body is tricky and you are the only one responsible for yours.
