jobs. In 2015 there were 11,747,800 employees working in government jobs
In 1910, there was no
Federal Reserve to create inflation, there was no Income Tax on individuals,
corporations, death estates. Federal
Departments were limited to Secretaries of State, War, Treasury, Interior and
Commerce. Federal Agencies were limited to the Bureau of Mines, Immigration
Service and the US Postal Service.
In 1910, the US
Federal Budget was $35 billion. Now in 2018, the US Federal Budget is $4
trillion.
In 1910, the House
Reps and Senators wrote their own Bills and Regulations and shared 100
Congressional staff employees. Committees were Ways & Means and Finance.
In 1910, House Reps
and Senators received campaign contributions from local power brokers and didn’t
have to spend time fund raising.
In 1912, US Senators
began to be elected by popular vote. Prior to the passage of the 17th
Amendment, Senators were elected by State Legislatures.
The US Federal
Government grew beyond its legal authority every time it created another
department, agency or program that is not authorized in the “enumerated powers”
written in the US Constitution.
The big cost drivers
for government have been related to assuming unconstitutional powers and
building massive bureaucracies to administer them.
