Sudan


Sudan is directly south of Egypt. The population is 41.5 million, The labor force is 12 million. The land area is 728,200 square miles. In 2017, nominal GDP was $115 billion, nominal per capita GDP was $2840 per year.

GDP by sector was 44.5% agricultural, 45.3% industrial, 10.2% services.  Labor force by occupation was agriculture 45%, industry 40%, services 15%.

Inflation was 12.8% in 2015. Unemployment was 13.7% in 2012. Population below poverty was 9% in 2012. Main industries include oil, cotton, textiles, cement, edible oils, sugar, soap distilling, shoes, petroleum refining, pharmaceuticals, armaments, automobile and light truck assembly. Ease of doing business 168th in 2017.

Exports were $8.5 billion in 2009 selling oil, petroleum products, cotton, sesame, livestock, groundnuts, gum arabic and sugar to UAE 32%, China 16.2%, Saudi Arabia 15.5%, Australia 4.7%, Pakistan 4.5%.

Imports $6.8 billion in 2009. Buying foodstuffs, manufactured goods, refinery and transport equipment, medicines, chemicals, textiles and wheat from China 26.3%, UAE 10%, India 9%, Egypt 5.6%, Turkey 4.7%, Saudi Arabia 4.4%, Russia 2%.

Government debt was 104.5% of GDP, revenue was $9 billion, spending was $10.8 billion and external debt was $36 billion in 2009
