Corporations

US corporations have abandoned their allegiance to the US and opted for global citizenship. But US voters stopped that plan in its tracks by electing Trump.

Corporations were formed in the 1800s to take advantage of advancements in science and were identified with their countries of origin. They had always engaged in international trade and technology transfers, but remained attached to their home countries. Corporations were key in determining the outcomes of World War I and World War II.

This has changed. Corporations have taken on a less patriotic tone. International mergers like Fiat-Chrysler may continue to expand and corporations are less likely to stay wedded to a particular country. Bad US law did drive many of these corporations to set up foreign operations to avoid labor unions, unnecessary regulations and excessive, uncompetitive corporate taxes and now we have removed some of these impediments.  But in the meantime, our international corporations have established supply chains they value more than the need to provide jobs for US citizens.  They adopted practices of “design anywhere, build anywhere” and should be able to see the down-side of that strategy. Many have given away their intellectual property to China to get access to Chinese consumers and Chinese manufacturers.

The Chinese are much more “national” than these US “partners”. They want to steal the intellectual property and develop their own products. They are fully capable of betraying their US “partners” and leaving them in the dustbowl of corporate history. China is also emboldened to expand its military footprint in the rest of Asia, because it sees this lack of nationalism in these corporations and can rightly assume that the US would be defeated in any conflict we have with China. Trade and national defense are inextricably linked and our US corporations don’t see this.

The heads of US corporations need to determine their allegiances and decide where to invest their citizenship. They have not been conducting business as a US corporation. They have been giving away their intellectual property and supporting globalist, open borders, socialist agendas.  If they are not happy in the US, they should move to another country that embraces their twisted political views.

If these corporations decide to stay in the US, they need to de-politicize their “values” and return to values that are simply customer oriented. The US government is perfectly capable of screwing up our “values”.
