Not going to College

AJC 7/9/18 page B1 Metro article “Not going to college doesn’t mean you don’t want a career” reports that 33% of our high school grads did not enroll in college, but went to work and are looking to advance with their employers.

BLS reported that there were 2.9 million high school grads in 2017 and 1.9 million of them enrolled in college. That left 1 million who went to work. Brookings reported that there are 10 million young adults, age 18 to 24 in the workforce.

The story is about a young man who worked through high school at Publix and advanced from bagger to cashier. He joined an auto wash store and became the manager at age 18. He leads 13 employees, works from 6:15 am to 8:00 pm, orders supplies, pays bills, maintains equipment, runs the payroll, trains, hires and fires employees. He insists on excellent work and satisfied customers.

Not finishing college - Bill Gates entered Harvard in 1973 and dropped out in 1975 to form Microsoft.
