The merger of the DOE
and DOL formed to focus on employable skills and providing a trained workforce
to US employers is still providing 20,000 employees spending $79.1 billion to
do things that should be done by individuals themselves and the private sector.
Student are actually responsible for learning what they need to know to be
self-supporting and parents are responsible for supporting them through their
childhood and helping them figure out their occupational options. Companies are
responsible for determining what skills are needed for their businesses.
The US Department of
Education has 3900 employees and a $69.4 billion budget. The US Department of
Labor has 15,924 employees and a $9.7 billion budget.
In addition, each
State has its own DOE and DOL and each county has its own public school system.
The Georgia DOL employs 2000 employees who administer unemployment insurance
and a placement function. The Georgia DOE has a budget of $9.4 billion.

Medicaid $3.3 billion, Transportation $2 billion, Debt Service $1.3 billion.
