From 2008 to 2018,
forest fires started on federal and state forests destroyed 62,671,170 acres in
586,860 fires. This 62 million acres is a land area of 352,525 square miles.
The land area of Texas is 261,914 square miles.
Privately owned tree
farms don’t have this problem, because they live on and maintain their
property. They keep underbrush clear. If a fire breaks out from a lightening
strike, they put out the fire quickly. These tree farms are in the 100 acre
range. Private owners take care of their
property. Government owned land is not
maintained to prevent large forest fires. The 9 million acres burning on the
West coast is due to lightening, power lines, high winds, dry underbrush lack
of oversight and inability to quickly respond and contain.
These forests need to
be privatized and sold to tree farmers. There is no need to have government own
30% of the US land mass.
