For the
fifth consecutive Congress, Rep. Steve King (R-Iowa) has introduced H.R. 140, the
Birthright Citizenship Act that would prevent children born to illegal-alien
parents in the United States from automatically receiving U.S. citizenship. The
bill was introduced with 20 original cosponsors.
The
Birthright Citizenship Act would restrict the granting of automatic citizenship
to newborns who have at least one parent who is a U.S. citizen or legal
permanent resident. The legislation would also allow the granting of automatic
citizenship to newborns who have at least one parent who is an alien serving
the armed forces.
The
Birthright Citizenship Act is one of Numbers USA’s 5 Great Solutions to
reforming the nation’s immigration system. The United States is one of only two
industrialized nations (Canada) to still grant automatic citizenship to all
children born in the country.
