US Nominal GDP History


There are differences in US GDP numbers by year found on Statista and The Balance websites.

US GDP grew from $14.48 trillion in 2009 to $18.62 trillion in 2016. This 8 years resulted in GDP growth of $4.14 trillion. Most of this was for federal government mal-investment.

US GDP grew from $18.62 trillion in 2016 to
$19.39 trillion in 2017 for a gain of $0.77 trillion.


The Balance - US Nominal GDP by Year

US GDP grew from $10.250 trillion in 2000 to $14,713 in 2008 and declined to $14,449 in 2009. GDP growth from 2009 to 2017 averaged 1.6% to 2.8%. GDP growth for 2018 is estimated at 3.4%.

US GDP growth from 2000 to 2017 came at a price.  The National Debt was $5 trillion in 2000 and rose to over $20 trillion by 2017. It also left US Household incomes flat.
