Attacks on Rome


Hannibal of Carthage began to attack Roman settlements in Spain in 219 AD.  He invaded Italy and Rome, but retreated back to Carthage to protect it from Roman attacks in 203 AD.

Germanic Tribes resisted expansion by the Roman Empire from 200 BC to 500 AD. These tribes included the Franks in Germany, the Goths from Scandinavia, the Huns from the Baltics the Vandals from North Africa and the Lumbards of Venice.

Attila the Hun 434-453 AD The Hun Kingdom occupied land from the Adriatic to the Black Sea north and east of Italy.

By 400 AD, Rome was surrounded by the Visigoths in Spain, the Ostrogoths in the Balkans and the Vandals in North Africa. Visigoths sacked Rome in 410 AD.
