This
list is ranked by Debt to GDP indicating the percentage of debt held by each
country by their government. This results from governments spending more than
they take in revenue and is based on the country’s national debt.
Interest
rates have been historically low for a decade and every country has leveraged
its spending with debt.
This
list also includes the populations of the 182 countries and localities listed
and it’s amazing how many countries and reported areas have small populations
close to the populations we have in cities and States in the US.
Japan
tops the list with a Debt to GDP of 234%, but the Japanese are big savers and
they fund most of the debt.
US
Debt to GDP at 109.45% is a concern and US federal government spending should
be lowered.
