GA EPD Water Quality Control

The Georgia Environmental Protection Division has ordered fines for cities and counties in Gwinnett, Walker, Macon, Bartow, Peach, Whitfield, Floyd, Screven and Forsyth. EPD requires maintenance sufficient to pass their tests and reporting.

The EPD sent 19,625 Enforcement Orders to most counties in 2019 proposing fines.

EPD requires filling stations to test their underground storage tanks and most of the fines and orders were for failure to monitor gasoline storage tanks now required for filling stations. Many fines are for sewage leaks by counties.

Many fines are for failure to renew permits and exceeding permit limitations. Some are for not submitting a Risk Management Plan, failure to post notices, trash dumping, oil dumping, sewer leaks, release of untreated waste water, maintenance of stream buffers, failure to apply for a permit, fraudulent emissions tests.

EDP is enforcing Obama Era environmental rules. Georgia non-profits are active and working to make fishing safe with pristine waters. 

Georgia wants more water for agriculture and clean water for human consumption from the Tennessee River, Alabama wants Georgia’s water for their Nuclear Plant and Florida wants Georgia’s river water for the Apalachicola Oysters and Clams.

The US needs more hydroelectric dams and reservoirs to mitigate floods and store water for droughts. Boaters, lake-dwelling campers and water bill payers will love it. Most US counties have aging water and sewer systems they need to attend to, but they don’t.
