The S&P 500
reached 2995 on July 3, 2019. My Vanguard 500 Index account shows 10% gains
each year since 2017.
7/1/16 1% loss
7/1/17 9.96% gain
7/1/18 10.96% gain
7/1/19 10.70% gain
I started my Vanguard
SEP 500 Index account in 1993. Prior to that all my investments were in fixed
assets that produced higher gains because of high inflation from 1965 to 1993.
As inflation subsided, fixed investment fund returns declined. In 1993, like today,
there was nowhere else to go but stocks.
I started a 401K
account in 1986 at Electromagnetic Sciences Inc. and when I resigned to start
my private consulting practice in 1993, I transferred my Pension balance and
401k balance to my Vanguard SEP.
From 1995 to 2001, I
made maximum contributions to the SEP.
After that I invested in paying off and upgrading my house. The value
appreciation on the house far exceeded what the stock market did from 2001 to
2016.
