National Defense

National Defense begins at home. Defending our borders against foreign invaders and malicious groups is what National Defense is. We keep a missile defense capability and a superior Military force to deter would be adversaries from attacking us.

Our Military has been used to wage wars of independence and wars of expansion to establish secure borders. Having won the Revolutionary War, we secured the 13 colonies and associated frontier lands in 1783.  In 1803, we made the Louisiana Purchase of the Midwest. In 1815 we defeated the British in the War of 1812. In 1848 we won the Mexican War.

This gave the US easily defendable borders with the Atlantic Ocean on the East Coast and the Pacific Ocean on the West Coast. We also had the American Civil War 1861 to 1865 to secure the continent. 

Our wars of expansion included the Mexican American War from 1846 to 1848 and the American Indian Wars 1622 to 1924.

Level I Defense is defense against hostilities and invasions that occur on US soil. Building the wall to secure the US Southern border and controlling US immigration are Level I Defense necessities.

Level II Defense is protecting our citizens and trade goods from threats that do not occur on our continent.  We did this in the Barbary Pirate War from 1801 to 1805. We also did this with the attack on Pearl Harbor that got us into World War II.

Level III Defense is protecting our ships where we had a choice to help or not help our allies as we did in World War I and World War II.

Military Foreign Aid is sending our Military, or military equipment or cash to foreign countries to defend them from their foreign or domestic adversaries. We did this in Vietnam and other countries and these were mistakes. US taxpayers have no interest in paying for other countries’ problems unless they pose a global threat.

We now have the capability of dealing with global threats by eliminating their funding. We have used financial sanctions, frozen bank accounts and redirected trade to deter rogue countries from doing damage.
