Renaissance

The Renaissance 1300-1600 fueled the great leap forward in scientific discovery that led to the creation of the Industrial Revolution 1800-1900 and our modern economy 1900-2020.

In 1300, the monarchy sponsored the arts and sciences. The middle class began with merchants and skilled trades. The Bubonic Plague in 1347 reducing the global population from 450 million to 350 million. This hit the large cities engaged in global trade and spread as infected individuals migrated to rural areas. This was a wake-up call.

The printing press was invented in 1439. The Ottoman Empire conquers Constantinople in 1453.  Columbus discovers America in 1492.

Art in the form of sculptures and paintings dominated history from 5000 BC. Ancient music was lost in time, but classical music surged from 1600 to 1900. Surges in art, music and architecture required wealthy patrons like Kings and Popes.
