Coal and Natural Gas Power Generation


Energy Production Costs for Hydroelectric power is 0.077 cents per kwh and is the cheapest way to produce electricity.

Coal is the next cheapest way to produce electricity at 2.07 cents per kwh, but coal pond residue needs to be contained to be kept from seeping into ground water.

Energy Production Costs in cents per kilowatt hour. In 2019 it costs 2.07 cents to generate 1 kilowatt hour of electricity at coal-fired plants.  The cost of generating 1 kilowatt hour of electricity in natural gas fired plants is 2.83 cents per kwh.
The cost per kwh using coal has increased by .003 cents and the cost per kwh using natural gas has decreased by 0.067 cents.
