US Consumer Goods

US imports in 2018 totaled $3.1 trillion.   US exports in 2018 totaled $2.5 trillion. The US Trade Deficit in 2018 was $621 billion

US Consumers bought $648 billion in 2018 Imports.  The US would not have a Trade Deficit if US Consumer Goods imports were reduced. Tariffs and more vigilant trade practices will accomplish this. In 2018, US Consumers bought foreign made Imports totaling $397 billion including:
Cell Phones & Television Sets $134 billion
Pharmaceuticals $134 billion
Apparel & Shoes $129 billion

Making these Consumer Goods in the US would reduce the US Trade Deficit and provide middle class Manufacturing Jobs to US citizens.

The failure of the US auto industry began in 1970. In 2018, US auto Exports were $159 billion, but imports were $372 billion. The US Trade Deficit will be further reduced by foreign countries building auto manufacturing plants in the US.
