The US jobs deficit for January 2021 was 9.5 million minus 5.018 million jobs added = 4.32 million deficit.
Total nonfarm payroll employment increased by 199,000 in December 2021 and the unemployment rate declined from 4.2% to 3.9%. The number of unemployed persons fell from 6.9 million to 6.3 million.
Professional and business services jobs increased by 43,000 in December. This included 42000 admin jobs. Jobs are down by 35,000 since February 2020.
Leisure and hospitality jobs increased by 53,000 in December. Jobs are down by 653,000 since February 2020.
Education jobs did not increase in December. Education employment is down by 723,000 from February 2020 levels including job losses of 370,000 in K-12 government education, 205,000 in state government education and 148,000 in private education.
Health care jobs did not increase in December. Health care employment is down by 450,000 since February 2020.
Manufacturing increased by 26,000 jobs in December. Manufacturing employment is 219,000 below its February 2020 level.
Information jobs did not increase in December. Employment in information is down by 122,000 since February 2020.
Financial activity jobs did not increase in December. Employment in financial activities is 30,000 jobs above its February 2020 level.
Mining jobs increased by 7,000 in December. Mining employment is 81,000 below a peak in January 2019.
Retail jobs did not increase in December. Retail jobs are down by 176,000 since February 2020.
Transportation and warehousing added 19,000 jobs in December. Jobs are 218,000 jobs ahead of February 2020.
The other services jobs did not increase in December. Employment in other services remains 169,000 lower than in February 2020.
Personal Care jobs did not increase in December. Social Assistance care jobs are 204,000 below February 2020 levels
Construction jobs increased by 22,000 in December. Employment in construction is 88,000 lower than in February 2020.
Wholesale
jobs increased by 14,000 in December.
Employment in wholesale trade is 129,000 lower than in February 2020.

Comments
The US Jobs deficit was 9.5 million in January 2021. This is the shortfall between jobs held in February 2020.
Over 1.7 million illegal immigrants entered the US since January 2021. I expect they will take government welfare in addition to food service, landscaping, construction and drug cartel jobs. Afghan refugees could exceed 100,000.
