The US Federal government owns 27% or 2.2 billion acres of all US land that totals 1.89 trillion acres. There are 640 acres per square mile.
This arrangement violates the US Constitution that limits federal land ownership to what they need to function including military bases. To return to following the Constitution, Congress draft a belated Amendment to allow the Federal Government to expand its right to own property beyond what it needs to function. This would need to be ratified by the States. If it is not ratified States would have the right to take over whatever federal land they wish, whenever they wish.
If States controlled this federal land, Alaska would be producing oil and natural gas. California would abandon its annual forest fire festivals. More states would increase their supply of water. Many states would sell or rent the land to farmers, ranchers and timber growers. States could control their parks to support tourism. States would allow more mining of rare earth metals needed in electronics and batteries.

States should have the right to restrict foreign land buyers to keep them from owning our food supply. States should be able to control immigration to their states based on labor needs in the private sector.
