AI is Artificial Intelligence and is being used to match Invoices with Purchase Orders to automate Accounts Payable. 

AI is software that does fancy data processing. It generates predictions, recommendations, or decisions based on statistical reasoning (precisely, this is true of machine learning types of AI). Evidence-based statistical policy making or statistical reasoning is a powerful tool for improving human lives. Evidence-based medicine understands this well. If AI software automates aspects of the human process of science, that makes it very powerful, but it remains software all the same.  Source: Fortune Magazine Jan-Feb 2024

Companies have “Enterprise-Wide Software systems that tie all business processes together

electronically. Engineering designs are entered on CAD machines that include the list of parts called the bill of material.  Designs can be fed into milling machines using 3-D computer integrated manufacturing. Dental crowns are made using small milling machines. In manufacturing 3-D metal parts are inspected by Coordinate Measuring Machines that laser scan 3D parts as they arrive at Inspection.

Purchase orders from customers that reflect sales are sent electronically. Sales are tied to inventories to show what parts need to be purchased to replace the parts in the units that are sold and shipped. Purchase orders for parts can be sent electronically. Payment to vendors can be made by direct deposit. Nobody touches paper.   Everybody uses keyboards.

Programming welding machines has been around for decades. Programming robots using AI is already happening. These are easy examples of good AI.

Unfortunately, AI used to “clone” movie stars gets all the attention. US Laws will need to be enacted to protect copyrights for famous people and image rights for others whose images are now on open systems. Voice duplication is used in phone scams and should be traced and prosecuted.

Legislatures would be wise to first determine what AI uses are allowed and pass laws to allow the productivity increasing versions already in use. AI should be used to prevent identity theft.
