US Senate 9-8-24

The US Senate has 100 Senators, 2 from each of the 50 States. There are currently 46 Democrats, 49 Republicans 4 Independents and 1 Vacancy. The Independents vote with the Democrats. All appropriation bills are originated in the House and are voted on in the Senate.  Senators were supposed to be elected by the State Legislatures, but in 1913, Congress passed the 17^th Amendment that allowed Senators to be elected by the voters of each State.
