Motivation 10-1-24

Maslow provided his Hierarchy of Needs

Self-Actualization: morality, creativity, spontaneity, acceptance, experience purpose, meaning and inner potential

Self Esteem: confidence achievement, respect of others, the need to be a unique individual, Love and Belonging: friendship, family, intimacy, sense of connection

Safety and Security: health, employment, property, family, social ability

Physiological: air, food, water, shelter clothing sleep

There are several stops we are invited to take to rise in Maslow’s model:

Our first adventure is to become economically self-sufficient to provide our own food, shelter and clothing.

We choose occupations and find employment and social ability.

We gain confidence through achievement, start families and buy homes.

We accept ourselves as we are, appreciate what we’ve accomplished and are grateful.

We will be happier if we know what we want to accomplish, we are good at it and enjoy it. SIMA System for Identifying Motivated Abilities identifies our motivated abilities.

The Personality Styles Test identifies our priorities. Maslow’s Self-Actualization includes meaning and purpose.

I was motivated by Achievement. I wasn’t interested in Power or Status. I was not interested in money, because the US Income Taxes were too high until the 1980s.  I did live up to Family examples, I enjoyed learning, I liked hands-on work, I had curiosity and talent, I always prayed for wisdom.
