Limited Government 11-7-24

The Founders established a Limited Government with limited powers. They were business owners in the Private Sector whose businesses were organized to allow them to serve in their Colonial Governments. They agreed on many of the issues cited by the Enlightenment Philosophers. They understood that their economic future required a Representative Government that allowed its citizens to flourish. They saw the danger in Monarchies and understood their European History. Their Ancestors had immigrated to the American British Colonies in the 1600s to be able to own their own land and were thriving. They were Colonial British Subjects and their Colonial Militias fought along side of British Troops. Their Colonial Legislatures had been free to pass their own laws. When the British Parliament passed new taxes to pay for the French Indian War they demanded Representation. When it was denied, they rebelled in 1775 and declared independence in 1776. The Articles of Confederation were passed in 1781. The Colonial Army won the Revolutionary War in 1783.

From 1783 to 1788, the Continental Congress wrote the US Constitution and it was ratified by the States in 1789. George Washington presided over the Continental Congress and was elected by the Continental Congress to become the first President of the US. In 1791, the US Bill of Rights was ratified by the States as the first 10 Amendments to the US Constitution. George Washington completed his second Term as President in 1797.

All Presidents who followed George Washington were Elect by the Voters, but voting rights were limited to men who were US Citizens.

John Adams was elected by the US Voters and served as President from 1797 to 1801.

The Supreme Court was established in 1789 with the Judiciary Act that authorized 1 Chief Justice and 5 Associate Justices. It also authorized 13 Circuit Courts in 13 cities. The Courts followed the “original intent” of the Constitution and used the Amendment process for States to radify these Amendments.

Federal Powers were limited and could only be expanded or revised through the Amendment process. The primary function of the Supreme Court was to rule on the constitutionality of lower court decisions and ensure that the “original intent” of the Constitution was followed. The 10th Amendment in the Bill of Rights empowered States to empower States Legislatures to pass laws to exercise powers not held by the Federal government.

The challenges in the first 20 years included paying the War Debt, establishing Tariffs to fund the Federal Government and improving infrastructure to allow produce to be transported from farms to cities.

Coining Money was included as a Federal Power. The first US coins were struck in 1793 at the Philadelphia Mint. The War Debt was paid by selling Bonds. The Baltimore and Ohio Railroad began moving passengers and goods in 1830.

The Industrial Revolution began in Britain in 1760. The Steam Engine allowed factories to be built and railroads to be established

The US Industrial Revolution began in 1790. The Private Sector of the US Economy was built on Steam Engine Power. The US began generating DC Electric Power in 1882. The US began generating AC Electric Power in 1896 at the Niagara Falls Hydroelectric Plant in 1896. By 1925, half of the Homes in the US has Electricity.

The US Private Sector drove the US Economy. Off-Shoring US Manufacturing has contracted the US Economy. Manufacturing Jobs need to be Re-Shored to the US.
