Dr Michael Faulkender Deputy Secretary Treasury 12-8-24

Dr. Michael William Faulkender has been picked to serve as Deputy Secretary of the U.S. Department of the Treasury.

(Bloomberg) -- President-elect Donald Trump selected finance professor Michael Faulkender — who implemented a key pandemic-era relief program during his first presidency — to be the deputy Treasury secretary.

Faulkender brings a rare mix of practical experience, advocacy and academic credentials to the position.  Politically, he holds a post at the America First Policy Institute, a key seal of approval for job-seekers in the next Trump administration. His academic work at the University of Maryland has focused on corporate capital structure, liquidity and executive compensation.

He served in the Treasury Department during the first Trump administration, finishing as a Senate-confirmed assistant secretary for economic policy.

Michael Faulkender is an associate dean of master's programs and professor of finance at the Robert H. Smith School of Business at the University of Maryland. He is known for his research on executive compensation and the corporate tax practices of multinational firms.

In March 2018, President Donald Trump nominated Faulkender to be Assistant Secretary of the Treasury for Economic Policy.

Professor Faulkender received B.S. in Managerial Economics from the University of California, Davis in 1994 and his PhD in finance from Northwestern University in June 2002.
