Broken Court System

Every day there is another article about court opinion reversals.  The latest has to do with lower court actions in Atlanta dealing with Burrell Ellis, the DeKalb County CEO who was convicted of extorting campaign contributions from county contractors.  The Georgia Supreme Court objected to the lower court’s refusal to let other contractors serve as defense witnesses.  This Supreme Court opinion suggests that the contractors who felt extorted were either “snow-flakes”, who needed a “safe room” or were political enemies using fundraising calls as an excuse to get rid of Ellis.

The real problem is that contractors are allowed to make campaign contributions in the first place. Voters should be the only ones who could make legal campaign contributions and only for those candidates who appear on their ballot.
