British Empire

The British Empire developed from Kingdoms in England after the fall of Rome in 476 AD and consolidation by the Normans after 1066 AD. The discovery of America in 1492 unleashed British expansion to include India, Canada and Australia and colonies in Africa and Asia.

By 1938, the British Empire was the largest empire and grew after the 1400s to 13 million square miles that included Canada, Australia, India and large holdings in America, Africa and Asia.

The British Empire developed the most powerful Navy and met little resistance from others.

The contraction of the British Empire included the loss of the US, India and African and Asian colonies.
