History of Government

After the Ice Age in 11,700 BC, families settled in clans and tribes.  The leaders of these clans and tribes included the best hunters, the best fighters and the best thinkers. Families select clans and tribes based on their needs and likes and choose similar families to form tribes. The choice to settle next to other families was based on how similar they were to us. Birds of a feather flock together.

As settlements grew and these clans and tribes moved in closer proximity, it was common for a leader to arise to lead these multiple tribes. Some seized power by force and others got their support from the majority.

Some of these settlements reached the size of small kingdoms and accepted Monarchy as a form of government, where Kings would be succeeded by their offspring.

Monarchies were established after 5000 BC as we settled into farming, metallurgy and trade. The primary responsibility of the Monarch was to defend the people from invasion by other countries. In addition, these Monarchs were involved in trade that brought prosperity and preventing famine and weakness.

The problem was that Monarchs too often opted for war to resolve disputes and misjudged their army’s ability to prevent invasion. There is an extensive record of the successes and failures of Monarchies throughout history.

The failures were often associated with the overthrow of abusive and negligent rulers. Confucius wrote his philosophy for Chinese rulers to avoid the pitfalls of ruling.

Monarchies were the dominant form of government from 3100 BC to 1700 AD, They were aligned with the cultures and religions of their people.  Europeans were delighted with the discovery of America in 1492 and enjoyed prosperity from 1500 to 1700.

But they began to decline in 1800 AD and the 1900s AD. The French Revolution of 1789 scuttled the Monarchy as did the American Revolution of 1776.

The devastation of World War I in 1918 also devastated the Monarchy in Europe. The devastation of World War II in 1945 ended more Monarchies across the globe and ignited Socialism.

The adoption of Socialism in most countries has divided the citizens and the battle between the Socialists and the Free Market believers is in play in the US.  Having witnessed the failures of Socialism, Free Marketers are battling to restore the US Constitution (as originally written). US Conservatives would like to see US Liberals move to Canada. The US is engaged in a bloodless civil war.
