Saudi Arabia Economy


The population of Saudi Arabia is 34 million with a land area of 830,000 square miles. Labor force is 12.34 million (80% foreign workers). Labor force by occupation is agriculture 6.7%, industry 21.4%, services 71.9%.

Nominal GDP was $708 billion. GEP Rank was 19th. GDP growth was 2%. Nominal per capita GDP was $21,120. GDP by sector was agriculture 2.6%, industry 44.2%, services 53.2%.

Main industries include crude oil production, petroleum refining, petrochemicals, ammonia, industrial gases, sodium hydroxide, cement, fertilizer, plastics, metals, ship repair, aircraft repair and construction. Ease of doing business rank 92nd.

Exports were $231.3 billion of petroleum and petroleum products (90%) sold to China 13.6%, Japan 11.3%, India 10.7%, US 10%. South Korea 9%, Singapore 4.7%.

Imports were $136.8 billion of machinery, equipment, food, chemicals, vehicles, textiles from China 19.2%, US 15%, Germany 6.3%, Japan 5.3%, UAE 5%, South Korea 5%.

Government revenue $171.6 billion, spending $227.8 billion. Debt to GDP 30%. Reserves $487 billion.

Saudi Arabia trades with all countries on all continents. 90% of exports are oil. The Labor force is 80% foreign. Only Muslims are allowed in Mecca and Medina.
