Iran Economy

The population of Iran is 83 million with a land area of 636,400 square miles. Labor force is 30 million. Poverty 20%, Unemployment 12%.Inflation 40%.

Nominal GDP was $430.7 billion. GDP Rank was 18th. GDP growth was down 3.7%. Nominal per capita GDP was $5,383. GDP by sector was agriculture 10%, industry 36%, services 54%.

Main Industries are petroleum, petrochemicals, fertilizer, caustic soda, auto parts, pharmaceuticals, home appliances, electronics, telecom, energy, power, textiles, cement, construction materials, food processing, sugar refining, vegetable oil, metal fabrication, armaments. Ease of doing business rank 120th.

Exports were $111 billion including petroleum (48%), chemical and petrochemicals, vehicles, nuts, carpets sold to China 27.5%, India 15.1%, South Korea 11.4%, Turkey 11.1%, Italy 5.7%, Japan 5.3%.

Imports were $76 billion in raw materials, intermediate goods (46%), capital goods, food, consumer goods (19%), technical services to UAE 27.4%, China 13.2%, Turkey 7.8%, Germany 4%.

Government revenue was $62 billion, spending $69 billion. External debt $7 billion. Debt to GDP 14.2%.Reserves $100 billion.
